Phoenix in March calls for some outdoor adventure! My husband and I were looking for a water activity in Phoenix and were able to find a kayaking trip through AOA. Initially we chose AOA because they were the ONLY place we could find that allowed for kayaking BEFORE April but our personal experience with this company has made us customers for life.
Purchasing the excursion online was very straightforward and you can even complete your liability waiver with e-signature. You could also wait to sign it in person too, it's pretty laid back. You get reminders and lots of details leading up to your trip and your cost is partially based on the number of people in your entire group. My husband and I actually got a refund when more people joined which was an unexpected surprise.
Here is what you can expect:
You meet at their corporate location where there is AC, a restroom, water and snacks/sunscreen for purchase. My group had our guide and 2 other canoes with 2 people each on board, plus my husband and I. You shuttle about 35 min to your launch point and are given a life vest (required) and general instruction. You can practice in quiet water before embarking and enjoy fairly quiet moving waters. There is a jumping rock that has about 8-10 feet of water around it.
Total time on the water is about 2 hrs and includes water and snacks as needed plus a knowledgeable guide. Oh and if your lucky you might see wild horses on a beach drinking water!
Good info: wear sunscreen, a hat (to protect against the sun) a bathing suit (because water does filter into the boat and you will get wet) and appropriate shoes. You will get a dry bag for your essentials so not to worry there. The kayaks are inflatable and white water grade so they are very durable.
Absolutely worth it. What a great way to experience nature in AZ.
