| - After 3 recent moves with a different moving company, I elected to go with DeHaven's because they were able to meet my moving dates and did not charge for storage. (They did, however, charge overtime rates for a Saturday unload which the other company would not have done).
I found the estimation process to be easy and accurate. I was offered free boxes and packing supplies from their warehouse, and the movers arrived punctually for the load out. I agreed to the basic coverage and had to sign a press-board damage waiver. From what I could tell, they took appropriate care in the handling of our items. However, we were moving from a large house (3,400 sq ft) and had a heavy load (13K lbs) so I could not be in all places at all times. The crew was friendly and clean. Some of the crew were older than I'd expected but they were experienced and carried their own weight.
The issues arose on the unload. First the crew arrived 2 hours late, which resulted in the last 90 minutes of the unload happening virtually in the dark of night. Second, and most significantly, as pieces started being unwrapped and taken off the truck, it was apparent that the crew was VERY rough on our furniture and items. Heavy, expensive pieces and small, light pieces alike were damaged... all of which had been successfully moved on 3 prior occasions with no damage. None. They splintered the edge on a china cabinet, ripped the back off a $700 office chair, tore apart desk furniture - aware that I'd signed the press-board waiver - and rough handled numerous other pieces.
At the end of the day, the damage to no one piece was that significant, and the total damage was too small to meet our deductible. Nonetheless, numerous items were delivered in a condition unacceptably worse than they were in when loaded on the front end, and several have to be replaced. Thought I applaud the company's administrative handling and flexibility, I would not use them again for a future move.
