  • This was my go-to store until today. I built a custom home a few years back and got drywall from them and tons of other materials. I would say I spent at least $30K at Home Depot. Well, all I needed now was a hot water heater and to get it installed through them. The water heaters were reasonably priced ( about $350) so I picked one out and then inquired about installation. The customer service manager told me it would be $800 for the installation. I was taken aback. He said that they use the BEST installer which is Parker Brothers. (You know, the Parker Brothers who has continuous commercial on TV). I guess they expected me to pay for some of those commercials through the installation. Can you imagine paying more than twice the amount of the cost of the hot water heater for installation????? It was beyond belief. The manager spoke to someone who handles the Parker Brothers installs only to reiterate that they don't discount the $800 price. Well, then I guess we don't buy from Home Depot. 15 minutes later we were at Lowe's. The same water heater for $5 more. Check. Installation?????? $289 plus some parts. Holy Guacamole. We paid for everything and THE VERY NEXT DAY AT NOON, the installer was at our door. Wonderful service and more than 50% off the cost of the home depot installation. Eric S at Plumbing installation made it all happen seamlessly. So great to deal with a great company. Lowe's will be my choice from now on. Home Depot left me with a bad taste in my by dealing with a company that charges so much. They give you no other options for installs. I guess they are married to Parker Brothers and must get a kickback for every install. Stores don't understand how easily they can lose a customer. Case in point.
