  • What can I say; my family were excited to head to Las Vegas for a 4 day getaway. We booked a suite at The Delano hotel. We arrived at the hotel and were surprised the valet and entrance into the hotel was in an underground parking garage, not traditional, but ok whatever. As soon as we exited our car, we could not help but notice the overwhelming smell of sewage. The valet quickly transferred our luggage to a cart so off went into the hotel. Upon entry, the smell was now a combination of sewage and air freshener, even more noxious than the sewage smell alone. Well we were here now, still excited, let's make the best of it. The lobby was modern and cool looking. We checked in and went to our room which was on the 37th floor. Our suite was nice, it had 1 1/2 bathrooms, which was a plus, since there are 5 of us. The facilities were clean also. By this time our bags arrived to the room. Oh oh, why are our pillows wet, did something from our bags spill? No, the bell cart the valet put our bags on was. The bellman was quick to give us $100 credit, to be used as credit for room service or the like. Wow, we thought, I did not expect that much of a credit, but we'll take it. The room has WiFi for up to 4 devices. If you want faster internet, it costs $39.95 extra per 24 hours! We had internet / WiFi issues on at least one device the whole stay. We did not opt for the upgraded internet service. It turns out, it did not matter, as I spoke with other guests who experienced similar issues despite purchasing the upgrade. The hotel shares a casino with Mandalay Bay and the Four Seasons. We thought it had its own casino, but this was not an issue for us. The days flew by and we really did alot this time while in Vegas. Well it's the last night, @ 1:45 am, when my oldest son informs me that there is water coming out of the vent from the ceiling in the master bathroom. The hotel sent maintenance and security, they said that the water was seeping through an uncaulked part of the shower in the room above us...?? Ok?! They offered to move us to a different room; we were leaving the next day so we decided we'll just stay. My wife told me she was told we would be credited the night's stay; OK, that's reasonable. 3:00 am, we have a long drive ahead of us, time for sleep. Checkout is at 11:00 am; the hotel was not accepting late checkouts. We decided to get breakfast and get packed up to leave. We sauntered back up to the room after breakfast @ 10:00. We were packed and ready to go in about 1/2 an hour. Fortunately, the hotel has checkout services through the television. Wouldn't you know, go figure, the checkout service was not working, ugghh! On the way down to the reception desk, I decided to buy a $3 Mtn Dew from the vending machine. $3 in nothing comes out, didn't say was out of order or empty, tried other selections, nothing, coin / bill return, nada! By now I'm getting a tad frustrated. We arrive at the lobby to a long line of people some new guests checking in, most checking out. When it was finally my turn, the receptionist asked me how our stay was. I asked if she wanted the good or bad first. I have to say the staff at the Delano deserves 5 stars, they were all excellent. For the bad, I mentioned the smell to the receptionist, she said it always smells like that afer it rains, but we arrived on Monday, it had not rained yet, and the smell was there from the beginning, I'll leave it at that. Since I was unable to view the bill on the television in the room, I was able to see it in print. Where was the credit for last's night's stay? The receptionist said we were credited the resort fee of $32, that's not the last night's room fee. The receptionist said they told my wife the same, my wife emphatically states someone told her, of course she couldn't remember her name, "last night's stay." Not that we were looking for a handout, and by this point, whatever Delano. Also, when I said the cherry on top was the pop machine incident, which the receptionist was quick to state that the machines were not serviced by Delano,; Hello, they are in your hotel, it is a reflection on you; please work on a better rebuttle. Funny how when I said I would write a Yelp review, we were credited @ $90 is more in waived "junk fees." The 4 nights still cost @ $900, despite the credits. In closing, We get to Vegas maybe once every 3-5 years, The last hotel we stayed at was Excalibur, $29 / night, and were even upgraded to superior room. In my opinion, it was an entirely better experience. We were happy to leave the Delano. Never again. You don't always get what you pay for. 2 stars, I think I'm being generous!
