UPDATE: Mastro's general manager, Phil, called me today to reach out and thank me for my honest review, particularly regarding the surcharge put on my bill. He told me that they have now ceased adding the surcharge to their customer's bills, which is the right thing to do.
The food is good. My steak was better 10 years ago, the last time I ate here, but it was still good. And still outrageously expensive. But you know it's ridiculously expensive before you come. The low rating is not because it's expensive. It's because Mastro's tacked on a "surcharge" that I didn't notice had been added until I got home. This surcharge is ostensibly to cover their increased costs due to the increase in minimum wage. So instead of raising their food prices, which are already mind-numbingly high, they throw in a surcharge that they don't tell you about. Not cool. Maybe their regular customers don't mind.
