| - Saul , owner, verbally offers free things like led lighting for stairs and makes the package look really great when talking in person, yet the end product was not what was discussed. And when I ask about it, he just points you to the contract and says that it is not on there so I guess it doesn't exist.
Hired them for a $10,000 landscaping job. I mentioned that I know nothing about trees and that I would like trees that are low maintenance. I told him that I have dogs that will access this area. So I trusted him in picking out the right trees for me. Turns out he picks a tree that is poisonous and even fatal to dogs. Even confirmed it with star nursery. Then he will not exchange the trees for me and tells me that I would have to pay extra for the extra trees. As a customer, I had put trust in this company to recommend things that are appropriate for my needs. Saul , after the fact, explained that he doesn't know everything about the trees because he's just the landscaper. But then shouldn't he tell me that from the beginning instead of sounding very confident and making recommendations? If he wasn't completely sure, he should have told me so that I can research it further. My dogs lives are at stake for crying out loud. The only reason I researched it in the first place is because I already lost trust in him at this point from the previous problems.
On top of the tree situation, I mentioned that I wanted a tree tall enough to block the view from my neighbors window to my hot tub. He then went on to tell me it will be additional $300 for a bigger tree, and I said fine, let's proceed. Fast forward to the day that the tree is installed, it is about 4 feet shorter than a tree that will be sufficient enough to block the view from my neighbors window. Then when I try to question him about it, there was much defensiveness. He stated that a tree that tall will be in the $2000 range. Again, why was this not communicated to me ever. I verbalized my purpose for having the tree, but he failed to pay attention to my needs. Or didn't care.
He also told me that it will take about one and a half months from February 9, the time we signed the contract, for my landscaping to be done. They told us that they are working directly with our HOA and will let us know. Turns out my landscaping is not done and it is now May 26th, almost 4 months later. After no follow up from them, I had to contact them to see what was going on. The first reason they gave me is that HOA approval only wants to communicate with the homeowner and not the landscaping company. This is something neither Saul nor his company failed to communicate to me from the beginning, and after waiting and waiting I finally got worried and had to call them. So then I called my Hoa and it was approved in less than a week. If this company had told me ahead of time, my hoa would have been approved early on, and my Landscaping may have been done earlier. Horrible communication with this company. Saul sort of blamed me in not texting him about this sooner instead of apologizing for his own employees lack of follow up. Why is this my fault?
Then the second reason they gave me is that there is another delay because their manufacturer of the pavers that I wanted ceased production due to mechanical reasons. So then I would have to wait another month (sometime in June). He then went on to tell me that if I wanted my landscaping done as soon as possible, the only option is that they could get pavers from another company but I will have to pay extra for these upgraded pavers that look pretty much like the original pavers. Which I agreed to and ended up paying more. He went on to blame the manufacturer and taking very little responsibility for this. He even sent me the email from the manufacturer as proof which is not something I really needed to see. I feel like if a company messes up, why should I have to pay more for a service they agreed to?
I even requested to just cancel the contract if they return my $2500 deposit. He refused to return my deposit even though there was this huge inconvenience for me. So I really had no options
After 4 months of waiting and not getting entirely the service that I paid for, I didn't get a feeling of apology or gratitude for my patience. Instead I got pushed blame to manufacturer and HOA, and defensiveness. The only "sorry" I got was the whole " I'm sorry you feel that way" deal.
I did confront him directly before writing this review. And told him that I was not happy with their service and would not recommend him to any of my friends. He basically just said that he doesn't care about my referrals and that he has enough business. He said that he is also getting frustrated. How professional
There were so many other companies I could have gone too. Another lesson that I learned is to shop around and to not trust the first company you come in contact with
