  • Walking past Barhop you could for a split second mistake it for another King West lounge-y club, but that couldn't be further from the truth. This is a comfortable, tasteful and welcoming beer bar that should be on any beer lover's go-to list. First and most important: the beer. Barhop has 25 taps, and happily there is no filler. Last night saw Delerium Tremens, La Trappe Tripel and Cheval Blanc up there among Canadian offerings like Denison's Weisse, Flying Monkey Netherworld and Muskoka Mad Tom. I had a Dieu du Ciel Derniere Volonte, which I had never seen on tap before. The bottle list is also pretty good and there is a rotating cask tap. Plenty of mixed drinks were being ordered and poured too so beer haters can join in too. The closest comparison for the beer list is maybe Allen's on the Danforth, but I think this place is making a very strong bid for the best taps in Toronto. The ambience is worlds away from the craziness of King. The place was decently busy for a Friday night - not too packed, but not empty. We sat at the bar but there's a little patio out front if you like that kind of thing. The bartenders were super friendly and made a point of asking me how I liked the beer that I had ordered. We didn't eat but they have a full menu. There were oyster specials advertised and we spotted a couple of plates of them scooting past to other tables. Menu also has a big section for mussels. All in all a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I mentioned how happy I was to have found this place and the bartender told us they've only been open for three weeks - they seem to have hit the ground running. Highly recommended for beer lovers or if you find yourself lost in club-land and need to escape.
