A friend brought over some mini-cupcakes from Crave the other day, which put cupcakes on my mind and reminded me that I wanted to try this place.
Following in the footsteps of other cupcake businesses, Bliss & Co. opened in a small space in Chinatown earlier in 2009. They offer similar selections to Crave at comparable prices (just a smidgen cheaper.) I also noticed that all their products are nut-free. If only they could figure out how to make a dairy-free version!
I tried the Valencia cupcake - chocolate cake with orange butter cream frosting - and it was soft and delicious but not sickly sweet. I can't really say I prefer either these or Crave's, because I think both are really yummy products and I'm not sure I'd be able to tell them apart aside from Bliss' softer icing (a matter of personal preference, I think.)
I received a discount because one of the owners told me my cupcake was "a bit smallish" (really? I didn't notice.) They also make cakes and pies which I'm sure would be equally tasty.
The owners are friendly and happy to talk about their business. My only complaint is they ran out of menus to bring home with me to plan for my next indulgence.
$2.75 for one cupcake - a small luxury, but I can think of worse vices.
