  • Short version: VERY unprofessional, offered a damaged car at a premium price, didn't end up making a purchase. Long version: I've been looking for a particular Volkswagen model for a few weeks online. When a used listing popped up from the Shults location in Wexford I contacted them for additional information. I was able to communicate with the dealership via text message (SUPER convenient) and the salesperson was even willing to bring the car from the Wexford location to the Harmar location for me to see (MUCH closer to me and GREATLY appreciated.) Unfortunately, that's when the good service ended. When I arrived to see the car, I was "greeted" by the salesman (ie. he yelled at me from across the room.) He didn't shake my hand or my husband's. Granted, we are young (early 30s) but we are also there to spend $20grand - the missing gesture instantly ticked off my husband and made a really poor impression. Next, he asked for my license so I could test drive. He made a photo copy, took us outside, tossed (literally tossed) me the keys and stated "well - you probably know more about this thing than I do, so here ya go." He then told us to take the car for a test drive without him even though he could "get in some serious trouble for this" because he was busy. Okay - guess we're on our own. In all fairness, I was at a Ford dealership to buy a Volkswagen, but again, some level of knowledge and/or professionalism should be present. We took the car for a drive and all was well. When we came back to the dealership, we were ready to buy - just needed to look around and make sure there were no surprises. I was shocked at the amount of body damage the car had - there were 2 very visible areas where dents had been pulled out and poorly repainted. There was another 10-15 spots ranging in size from a rock chip to a dime that had also been very poorly painted. The spots were all over the car - not just on the front bumper like one would expect. Hail damage perhaps? At any rate, I was concerned about rust given how poorly the spots had been "fixed." The salesperson offered to pull up the carfax and check to see who had done the repair work - the previous owner or the dealership. We had to wait about 30 minutes for this information because he "wasn't allowed to have the computer password", "didn't know how to use this thing" and couldn't get the printer to work from his tablet. Again, very unprofessional. When he was going over the carfax with us, he was also talking to another couple at the desk next to us trying to make a deal. We learned that the dealership was, in fact, who had done the "repair" work - we were shocked at how poorly it was done and just assumed it was a home job. The fact that the dealership did that instantly made me question how reliable the mechanics of the car would be as well. I voiced my concerns and he informed me that Harmar would never do that, but the Wexford location is unreliable and he wasn't surprised they got a car in that shape. Really??? I told him that I was still interested but that I was not willing to pay asking price. He went to his manager who offered a $500 discount but stated "there's no way they were going to fix any of the body work at that price" even though he had preciously said that would be taken care of if we bought the car. We ended up saying no thanks and leaving disappointed.
