  • The plan was to get dad a lovely caramel apple from the kiosk on the second floor of NYNY as a thank-you for picking us up from the airport. While meandering merrily down to the gate at McCarren, it suddenly hit me - we forgot to buy the apple! (I blame that third round of cocktails). Fortunately, Ethel M came to the rescue with a lovely box of half-off truffles and our good karma was preserved. It's much like a See's Candy for those familiar with that chain - they have prepacked boxes and also a case of individual chocolates for you to pick and choose. The woman working there was very friendly and offered free samples as well. I tried their vanilla truffle which was just a touch over-sweet but still quite good. As others have noted, prices can be high, so if you luck upon a good sale or clearance price, jump on it. I wouldn't go out of my way to drop in, but if I were in the airport and wanted some high quality chocolate or a last minute souvenir, this is where you'll find me.
