| - Stayed at the M recently and had some excellent experiences and some not-so-excellent experiences. Bottom line: we would likely stay here again just because it is newer, the room service is good, and it is away from the chaos on the strip. Hopefully, they will get a different set of front-desk staffers, as they were the dark spot on the stay.
Excellent Experiences:
Room Service (aka in-room dining) - always arrived within 30 min of the call, and the staff were always polite and accommodating. If you ordered one item, they still asked how many would be dining and would happily bring an extra place setting if you wanted to share something. The food was the BEST "room-service food" I can remember and we had both breakfast and dinner more than once.
Bathroom - We always love to find two sinks in a hotel bathroom, and the fact that the shower is separate from the bathtub was an extra happy find. Lighting in the bathroom is also good, which is important for those of us who need to be there quite a while doing makeup and hair.
Buffet at Studio B - Beer is FREE and the line to get in moves fairly quickly IF you go on a weekday (weekends are really slow). We found some very yummy vegetarian pizza and pasta dishes and the dessert bar is not to be missed (from ice cream to cookies to creme brulee to tiramisu and on and on).
Now for the not- so-excellent:
The staff at the front desk is the only staff we encountered at the M who were disappointing. Most of them needed personality transplants. When we arrived at 9 PM we had to wait almost half an hour to check in. You'd think they would at least be friendly, but they all were in slow motion and not friendly at all. We had two other occasions when we went to to the front desk and I would advise anyone visiting to avoid it at all costs once you have checked in!
The waiting: Aside from the front desk, we ran into a line 22 people deep at the Baby Cakes bakery one morning. We desperately needed some coffee and a muffin before we checked out and there was only ONE person working. She was very, very slow, and we (along with at least half the line) ended up leaving empty handed after we figured we'd otherwise be there over an hour (it took almost 15 minutes to get two people in the line served and on their way!!!). The buffet line on the weekend is to be avoided at all costs (seafood brings people in droves apparently!).
The smoke stench - for a casino that is barely a year old, it smells like 20 years worth of stale smoke. They have low ceilings and a sad little non-smoking section of about 2 rows of slots ( as if it matters!). We are both allergic to smoke (instant blood-red eyes) and were hoping we could tolerate this newer casino.
There is only ONE set of elevators (closer to one end than the other), so no matter where you park you will have a bit of a hike. This is not an issue unless you are carrying something that you don't want a bellman for. There is also a funky smell on the spa level near the elevators (rotten seafood-ish smell) - it was there day and night every day we were there.
One additional piece of information: they have a spa in this hotel, but we NEVER saw one person in there! One reason could be that the products they leave in the rooms (from the spa) are mostly unscented and unremarkable...if they'd left me some aromatherapy type products, I would have at least gone in to look at products.
