I joined CrossFit CLE in March 2012... so I am coming up on my first anniversary here. Although - I must be honest... an unrelated NON-CF injury put me out of the gym for a couple months...
The trainers and co-members here are what really makes this place special. There are more & more CF boxes opening in NE Ohio ... some of them are REALLY good, some of them are scary. CF CLE is one of the REALLY good ones. All of the trainers have degrees and at least Level 1 Certification. This means that they're professional CF trainers - they make up their own programming... they don't just follow a website.
I hear a lot of newbies who come in and are worried that people will "judge" them if they don't keep up, or perform well, etc. The thing is that NO ONE here will judge you - they'll cheer you on and commiserate with you after a WOD. Everyone is so supportive - but you should prepare to really expand your friend circle. It would be impossible to walk away without new friends! :)
Another really important thing: CF CLE requires an ON-Ramp program for beginners... it's a month long and they train you all of the proper technique, tricks, etc. This is soooo critical, I can't even begin to articulate. Some gyms "teach you as you go"... this is not doing you any favors. You'll end up hurt, for sure. Don't cheap out and think you're gaining something by skipping this introduction.
The other awesome thing about CLE? You don't have to book time slots. They have 9 classes each day during the week and you just show up at your desired time. They never have issues with running out of equipment. Sometimes we get creative with space - but it's never so cramped that its uncomfortable or dangerous.
Again - there are many CF boxes in NE Ohio. Many of them are friends with the members at CLE. But, make sure you do your homework before you join a box. And.... be prepared for the toughest workouts of your life. :)
