| - As wonderful as the food is -- both selection & quality, and as hospitable as the waitstaff is, it simply is NOT worth the wait in the line.
I arrived in line on a Monday at 12:36PM. At 1:38PM, I finally made it to the cash register to pay. I was solo, but had a "2 for 1" coupon. The cashier immediately told me that I couldn't use the coupon because I was solo. Plenty of other buffets in the area (Station Casinos, Silverton, et al) also send out 2 for 1 coupons, and allow a solo person to use that coupon for 50% off the price for one person, but good ol' Studio B Buffet at M Resort doesn't. The cashier said something about how they've been "fighting" with management over this issue, to no avail. After waiting in-line over an hour, I didn't even try to debate the matter with her (Yes, having that coupon was the reason I chose to visit the M Resort in the first place).
So, you'd think I'd be happy that after my 62 minute wait in line, I'd be happy that I paid the $$ and would soon be seated, right?
Wrong. Because after you wait in line to reach the cashier & pay, you then get to wait in another line for a host to seat you. That line took 22 minutes, for a grand total of 84 minutes waiting in lines, until I was seated for lunch!
I realize that lines/waits are a normal fact of life with buffets, but almost an hour & 1/2 is not reasonable, and not worth it. I've hit other buffets right at 'prime-time' lunch or dinner hours,
& the longest I've had to wait was about 30 minutes.
The pricing plus wait times means that once people are finally seated, they're generally going to spend longer in the restaurant than they would if they paid less/were seated in a reasonable amount of time -- you kind of feel obligated to sit there & relax plus over-eat, as no one wants to just eat & leave in 45 minutes if they had to wait over an hour just to be seated.
When I arrived at the M Resort, I couldn't find my 'Marquee Rewards' card for the place & I thought that was strange, as I have 6 other player cards that I keep in my wallet. So I got a replacement. After the ordeal at the Studio B Buffet, I realized that I threw their rewards card away after an hour+ long wait for the buffet a year ago! The cheapskates can't even give you free wifi while you're in-line or in the buffet. Yes, there's an open wifi signal, but once you join it, you've got to log-on with your hotel room #, etc.
Bottom line: If you're elderly, if you've got kids with you, if your blood-glucose level is crashing, or if you've simply got common-sense, don't bother with Studio B buffet if there's a line! But if there's a small line (as there was when I left the place at 3:15PM), go for it.
They *CAN* and *NEED* to do something about the long lines -- from past experience and listening to some of the people in line around me talking, the excessive waits aren't unusual, it's not like today was some sort of special situation. They could easily implement a reservation system, so I could have been more productive with my afternoon instead of standing & waiting for 84 minutes (even if it meant I was gambling elsewhere in the casino, at least I could have been sitting & relaxing). Another idea is to at some point, separate the line of people waiting to be seated into rows based on # in the party. That way, if there were many tables for two available, parties of one or two could have been seated faster, instead of waiting in one line where you have to wait for a table for 4 to be cleared for the groups of 3 or 4 people ahead of you, or the group of 4 behind you in line waiting until they find a table for the part of 1 ahead of them, etc.
