| - I've been here quite a few times, but figured a review was in order since I went back again last night. Sycamore Brewing has to be the hottest brewery in Charlotte. With a key location in the heart of southend, an awesome outdoor space, and a constantly rotating selection of taps you really can't go wrong swinging by to grab a drink.
Sycamore specializes in small batch brewing, which is great if 1) you like doing a lot of work, and 2) you like trying new things. Being a home brewer, I can appreciate the craft these guys are trying perfect and I am always look forward to try their latest creations. They set a goal for themselves to brew 100 (I didn't stutter, one hundred!) different beers in their first year. Hat's off - that is incredible.
It also helps that the tap room is an awesome place to hang out. I still haven't figured out how the staff identifies the different taps as they appear not to be marked (I'm assuming a side effect of brewing 100 beers in a year), but they have never messed up an order of mine. The outdoor space is fun and they always have something going on like live music. The growth of this place is astounding. I'm excited to see how the new expansion will look after completion and how they will handle the new burden of being the Food Truck Friday home. Only being a year and a half old, they appear to be doing everything right.
My only qualm about this place are that it's almost too popular. The current taproom is small and the bar quickly becomes 3 people deep on weekends. A lack of soundproofing makes the taproom deafening during peak and non-peak hours alike. This pushes people outdoors, but it can become uncomfortable during the winter months. I also find it interesting that this place has a very different vibe than the rest of the brewery scene. Almost like it has become a place to be seen, rather than grab a pint with your friends. However, they have done wonders to expand the Charlotte brew scene and I certainly look forward to going back!
