| - I arrived on a Friday night/Saturday morning in January around 1AM and it was busy, but there was a lot of staff on hand. Valet guys were fast and courteous, and hotel registration had 5+ people helping guests check in. When I informed valet that I would be leaving in 3hrs, they kept my car out front instead of taking it away. It made it easier and faster for me to retrieve my car later.
I stood in line at about 1:05AM & was checked in by 1:20AM. I was helped by Rachel Anne and she was exceptional. She was very informative and accommodating. I requested a room with 2 beds if possible, and she informed me that all the king bed rooms were taken anyway, so the only option was a room with 2 beds. She offered me a complimentary upgrade to one of the newly renovated rooms. I was grateful, but skeptical at the same time because I had read recent reviews that stated the newly renovated rooms were not good, smaller, and the smell of paint was very fresh and too strong. Regardless, I accepted her offer. I inquired about the observation deck. Even though it was 1:20am and the deck closes at 2am, Rachel Anne ensured that we would make it in time. She informed us about the location of our hotel room elevator as well as the escalator leading to the observation deck. The cost for hotel guests to go up to the observation deck is $5 per person, and up to 2 people per room key. Rachel Anne made the start of our stay very enjoyable, especially since we were tired from being stuck in traffic & arriving so late. She goes above and beyond.
When I arrived at the room, there was a light smell of paint, but not too bad. Everything else was good. The room does seem to have been renovated. Our view was of the parking structure so we always kept our curtains closed as we don't want peeping Toms from across the way. The only complaint I have is bad lighting. There is no light in the center of the room, only 2 lamps, one on the nightstand and one on the working desk. Aside from that, our overall stay was better than I expected.
With all the bad reviews I've read, I wasn't expecting much besides a decent room to stay in since it was only going to be for a couple of hours. I was only passing through on a road trip, so I didn't feel the need to stay somewhere closer to the center strip. I also wanted to stay here because of the discount to the observation deck. If you stay here, going to the deck is worth it! A month ago, I would have never given Stratosphere a second thought; I would avoid it at all costs. Now, I'm glad I gave it a chance because it was a great stay!
