| - I kills me to give the Fairmont a 3 star rating. Why? Because I enjoyed my stay here. The room (a suite, admittedly) was so nice. The staff were great and they are dog friendly and even have a lovely doggie mascot called Edie, who is super cute and got on famously with my pooch.
So why the 3 stars. Simply, the food (mostly room service) was mediocre to terrible. I didn't think it was possible to get food that bad in a hotel that good. Since I was here for a week and ordered (by necessity) room service every day, I got to try a good few different dishes, primarily in a desperate attempt to find something decent. All were bad. Then the quality of individual dishes varied from night to night or the dish arrived looking and tasting completely different. I guess different chefs who didn't coordinate? About the only thing I ordered twice, the salmon with tomato and olive casserole was decent enough the first time and inexplicably came swimming in an inch or more of olive oil the 2nd. I'm all for the Mediterranean diet, but that can't be healthy! Scrambled eggs at breakfast were poor. Breakfast sausages arrived cold twice. Wings, bland and with the buffalo sauce lightly drizzled on top, maybe to class them up? Just toss them in it because it didn't make them taste better. Crispy chicken wrap, barely filled, the meager contents came pouring out as soon as I picked up a 1/2, eating it was not a pleasure. Another chicken dish (grilled this time) whose name I forget, completely bland at $18 plus enforced gratuity plus delivery fee.
Under different circumstances I'd definitely return to the Fairmont, so long as I was in a position to go to a restaurant every morning/noon/night. Because it's a great place to stay and the staff are excellent. Just avoid eating there. Or maybe it's better in the restaurant for some odd reason. I'm sure they must have some good dishes, but I didn't get any. Everything else in the hotel is so totally on point, I don't get how they missed the kitchen.
