| - It's as though this place has an identity crisis between the first and second floors.
My Dad gives my Mom and me gift cards for a spa day each Christmas, which is very nice and generous. We are treated to a facial, massage, and manicure/pedicure, which as you can imagine takes the better part of a day. My Mom and I don't usually pamper ourselves to such a degree, so it is a really nice treat, and the atmosphere of the spa (both floors) is lovely.
Upstairs, where the facials and massages happen, you are given plush robes and slippers and offered cucumber water -- the whole nine yards. The changing area is spacious and even has a shower (presumably for those who do mud treatments or simply want to rinse of massage oil).
The facials and massages I've gotten here have been wonderful. The estheticians listen to me and treat what need to be treated, even once I disclose that I'm from Chicago. The one exception was several years ago when I had a male massage therapist, who spent not enough time on my back and too much time on my limbs, in awkward (non-sexual, just awkward) fashion.
Then, the nail treatments. The pedicures are done in a not-so comfortable and almost precarious location, where you climb up (and then down) a couple of wooden steps that get wet and slippery. Also, my manicures/pedicures always seem sort of rushed through, and never last very long. Everyone is always very friendly, and they use OPI and Essi products just like everyone else, but there is something about the nail services that is below-average.
It's still a nice tradition I do with my Mom, and so we shall continue. But for Hudsonites, I wouldn't recommend making this a regular spot for nail services, especially given spa-level prices.
