| - I would agree with the previous reviewer who said that Monique has well executed the no-gimmick poutine "classique". The classic dark-brown gravy is simple, creamy, not overwhelming on the salt. Fries are freshly cut, even freshly cooked at the speed food is turned over here. Their poutine is assembled with fries first, followed by gravy, then pack a generous layer of curds, and topped off with more gravy. It may not be the "best" poutine I've had but it's simple and does the job. A small at $6.90, tax included, is more than adequate for one sitting.
That flattened slightly-burnt bun on the left is a grilled cheese in case you're wondering. The cheese was a bit lacking (slice of Kraft Singles?). Meh. I've also had hot dog steamies and a hamburger on another occasion - it's comparable to Décarie Hot Dog, La Belle Province, and other cantines.
Long-living "vintage" casse-croûtes are all very similar. They serve basically the same steamies, the same hamburgers, take cash only, and provide bloated comfort at best. One certain differentiating factor is the poutine and at least that's well made chez Monique.
