  • You cannot beat the location of the Hyatt Place CU. Nestled in the heart of downtown Champaign, the hotel is literally steps away from everything you could need. My recent (and only) stay here was mostly fantastic, with just a few quirks and bumps. Let's first jump into what I loved: +The hotel itself is really nice. It's pretty and modern, and there are lots of community spaces for working and eating. +My room was exactly what I needed. There was a comfy sofa and desk separated with a partition from the bed. I loved having different spaces so that it didn't feel like I was trapped in a bedroom the whole time. The bathroom was beautiful with a really fantastic shower. I also appreciated the window shades that made the room completely dark. +There is a complimentary breakfast! It's small, but it's plentiful and filling. +For the most part the staff was really nice and helpful. The two things I thought were a bit weird: -The snack selection here is seriously lacking. I'm used to Marriott's wall o' snacks, and Hyatt Place did not meet those expectations. I know I could easily walk to restaurants, but with being in town 3 days with no car, I just wanted some snacks. The hotel does have a 24/7 food ordering (not room service), but it's more meal-like and you have to go to the lobby to pick up your order... -...which leads me to my other issue. On the first night at the hotel, I called the front lobby to place an order for dinner and had the most bizarre experience. The guy who answered (if the hotel is reading this, see who worked late at night on 7/27)... maybe his name was Ben?... anyway, this was our interaction: Guy: (Exasperated sound) Uh, front desk? Me: Hi, is everything okay? Guy: Well I just got here, and I'm busy trying to get everything together. Me: Um, okay. Can I place an order for some dinner? Guy: (An even louder exasperated sound) Uh, I suppose. Me: You know what, that's okay. No thanks, I don't want to bother you. (Hangs up phone) Guy: Called my room twice, and obviously I didn't pick up. These two inconveniences sucked, but they certainly weren't bad enough to keep me away. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next trip to CU.
