| - Compared to DMVs I've been to in California, this one is amazingly efficient.
I recently moved to Nevada, so I needed to get a new license and register my car. I made an appointment online, and was called as soon as I checked in. I was shocked at how quick the process was.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, which was also surprising. My husband and I were a bit unprepared - this is a new process for us - but they were understanding and explained it to us.
I had looked on the website and thought we had all the required documents, but we didn't. I thought our old California IDs would serve as proof of identity, but because they aren't the new Real ID cards, they weren't sufficient. If you don't have your Real ID card, you need a passport or birth certificate and social security card. I happened to have my passport and social security card on me (I was processing my I9 paperwork earlier), so I was able to get my license. My husband, on the other hand, was not.
The new photo requirements are interesting. Because of new facial recognition software, your ears need to be visible. You need to pull your hair back so they show.
As for the car registration, I made an appointment for tomorrow. We didn't have a screwdriver to remove our old plates. Totally unprepared, I know. I recommend reading the website thoroughly to ensure you have everything you need, which will make the process even smoother.
