Sometimes it's difficult to find a place open on Dec 26 but I had been waiting to try Modern Steak since I saw it open and was happy to see I could make a reservation there on open table for my birthday.
The truffle popcorn to start is delicious, nice and salty and fresh.
We started with the Prawn Bong and didn't know what to expect - the menu says spicy but it could use a little more heat in my opinion. 5 Prawns made it a great share plate.
The kale Cesar salad was delicious with fresh bacon.
I had the 10oz tenderloin from High River, my parents both had 12oz Prime Rib and my wife had the Arctic Char.
All the beef was cooked perfectly! I had the truffle fries and was scraping the bottom of the garlic aioli by the end. Be warned - the horseradish is very hot but also delicious.
The fish was cooked perfect as well and came with delicious maple Brussels sprouts.
For dessert we shared the cinnamon bun with vanilla gelato. The bun was fresh and it had two scoops of gelato which was a perfect ratio.
The atmosphere reminded me of a Vegas lounge and had a chill vibe.
The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the waitress seemed quite inexperienced. She did not go into any details with the menu and did not know the ingredients of any of the after dinner coffees. We could hear the other waitress at the next table and that's how we knew the features.
I will definitely be back and will make this a neighbourhood favourite!
