| - Special thanks to Robbie Burnett. This optical shop is right in the Bellagio, so one expects high-end eye-wear with high-end service. And they deliver. I am not much of a shopper and not a brand-name person and definitely not into paying for premium shop space, so I don't usually even go into the hotel stores. However....
I do spend on quality and I have a lovely pair of Mykita light-weight progressive lens glasses I got at a store in the Studio City area of Los Angeles County. I needed to replace the silicon nose pad. The convenient store near my Pasadena office didn't have them - they're specialty items, so I went back to the original store, run by a very nice woman working for a very nice doctor. They didn't have them. That was it. "We don't have them." They gave me a generic pad, which looked awful and left a dent in my nose almost as deep as wearing the frame without any padding at all.
I scoured the internet and found someone in Singapore who had designed his own substitute pads -- they eventually arrived and were slightly more comfortable but hideous.
So I stopped in at Optica at Christmas-time while enjoying a spur-of-the-moment holiday with friends. Robbie asked me to wait for the impressive woman he works with, who took a while to get to me because she was giving attentive service to another guest. Together, they couldn't find the pads I needed but took my name and number and promised to get back to me. I didn't buy anything and so wasn't really expecting much.
Weeks later, I got the call! They had found a sales rep who dug up TWO SETS from somewhere. The pads arrived -- at no charge -- and I am now able to get at least another year from these frames. They saved me hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds) of dollars.
When it's time for new frames, guess where I'm going?
Oh, and Robbie has great taste too! While I was waiting at my first visit, he suggested a few pair that look even better than the ones I'm using now. So it will be worth it.
Nice selection, excellent service. Thank you.
PS - while the selection was obviously high-end, the prices were reasonable for the quality offered. Don't want to scare anyone off!
