| - I recently took my puppy to get vaccinated at the Spay and Neuter Clinic on Gilbert and Southern. I was behind on vaccinations because both my husband and I work 5-6 days a week. When I finally had a Friday off, I got there around 7 AM knowing that there would be a wait. We waited for about an hour and 15 minutes. No big deal.
When we finally got called back, the nurse commented on what a healthy, happy puppy I had. She asked me about his vaccinations and I explained the situation. She kind of gave me a sideways glance but I brushed it off. I handed her his shot records and she commented on how she didn't like the layout of the records so she made me switch to their record template. Again, not a huge deal, just annoying. She asked about what we feed him and I told her that we feed him Purina because that is what the breeder was feeding him when we got him. She reprimanded me for feeding him something that was not good for him and gave me a list of dog foods that we can't afford. She told me I should set up an appointment soon to get him neutered. When I told her that we weren't planning on neutering him, I could tell she was very unhappy with me. She essentially told me that I was inhumane for thinking about breeding him even though the majority of the litter would be going to family members. Yes, I realize that there a lot of dogs that need to be adopted and I'm not against that. I have adopted a few dogs before. I was a little irritated at this point.
Then the vet came in. She made a comment under her breath about another person that isn't keeping their dog up to date on vaccines. The nurse told her that I was feeding him Purina. She scoffs and says "Of course she is!" as if I wasn't standing right next to her. When she found out that we didn't plan to neuter him she said, "You're just giving me all the wrong answers today, aren't you?" At this point, I'm pretty upset that they are trying to make me feel like a terrible pet owner. She didn't even have the needle in her hand when my one and a half year old daughter went to pet my dog. She yelled at my daughter to get away from the dog. I said, "Oh, she's just going to say hi.". She responded with, "I don't care what she is doing. She can't be over here!" Everyone else in the room was petting the dog, how was my daughter (or I) supposed to know that she wasn't allowed to pet her own dog? I was fuming at this point. It's one thing to talk down to me but do not ever speak to my child in that way.
I get that animals are their lives. That's not the issue. You can tell me what you think would be best for my dog but you cannot tell me that what I'm doing is wrong when my dog is perfectly healthy. I would have been much more receptive to what they had to say had they approached me in a professional manner. I am extremely offended by the way I was treated at this clinic and will not be returning. Unfortunately, the prices are a reflection of the service you will receive. I will be going elsewhere and paying more to get my dog vaccinated in the future because contrary to what they may think of me, I do care about my dog's well being.
