  • I'm going with a 2 on this one or maybe a 2.5 at best. This place is apparently all the rage, particularly with the high school and college set. We stopped in there one night and the line was almost to the door. 25 minutes later, we finally arrived at the cash register and went to place our order. Given that this was our first time at Creamistry and given the rather confusing, new process, it would have been nice to be given a little introduction by the cashier. However, no introduction was forthcoming. She basically just stood there and stared at us until we were able to navigate the menu and come up with something that looked good. We both ordered the ice cream with the coconut base, but we got different flavors in each. The process itself of making the ice cream with liquid nitrogen was really cool and fun to watch through the glass. I will say, though, that the employees seemed exceptionally bored and not the least bit enthusiastic about their jobs. Again, an opportunity to show how things are different at Creamistry, but they failed in this area, too. Finally, the ice cream arrived. I was not particularly impressed. The flavor was quite good actually (I got Nutella), but the texture was kinda weird. Very custardy and thick and it kind of sticks to your mouth. Think sticky, rather than creamy, which is not the desired texture for ice cream. So, in summary, I think the concept is pretty cool and unique and has the potential to be fun, but the ice cream was not up to par, at least to me. And the prices are way expensive, IMHO -- $17 for two small ice creams? Geez! I think there is far better ice cream to be had in town, including Sweet Republic, Churn and the gelato place at the Biltmore. Oh well.
