| - Unprofessional and emotionally unstable Doctor (Doctor Don Parker).
I have seen Mr. Parker twice for normal routine checkups (every 6 months). To be honest, the dental hygienists do most of the work (they are excellent) and he comes in at the end as expected just to double check everything. I mostly came here because of the dental hygienists and the proximity to where I live (not because I considered his work extraordinary).
Six months ago, Mr. Parker advised me of concerns associated with taking xrays every 6 months (additional radiation etc.). I understood the risks but given they are part of my benefits and I have had changes in my teeth, I asked for the xrays. Fast forward to today; I asked again for xrays prior to beginning my exam. Mr. Parker came into the room and said he was "oppositional" to that and explained the same information he had provided 6 months ago. I acknowledged his disclosure of the risks and said regardless, I still wanted xrays as they were part of my medical benefit and because i've had changes in my teeth over the last 6 months (increased sensitivity). He then said I shouldn't be "ignorant" about my health and that he would feel horrible if I got cancer in 10-20 years because of getting xrays every 6 months. I absolutely understand x-rays expose you to radiation but it seemed a bit of a stretch to assume that the risk is so high that he would correlate me getting cancer from them in 10-20 years; if that was the case, i'm sure I would have to sign a million release forms to get the procedure done. I honestly think this was a money play on his part. Regardless, I explained a second time that I still wanted the xrays. Mr. Parker continued to argue with me and make comments about my ability to understand the risks. I continually acknowledged the risks and grew tired of being argued with so asked if he was going to take the xrays or if I should go to another doctor. At that point, he stood up, pushed the light above my chair and said "FINE, F&CK IT!!!". At that point, I realized he was not mentally stable and there was no way in hell I was going to let him examine me. I promptly walked out and will never return again. His behavior as a medical professional was highly unprofessional and embarrassing to his coworkers (the office workers in the front apologized).
I wasn't asking to hold on to a Radium rock; I was asking for xrays which are provided as part of my benefit after I acknowledged the risks explained to me. I honestly think his ego got in the way of being a good medical professional.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! Seems like the other reviews are decent, but if they keep a dentist like Mr. Parker on payroll, I have to assume there are other issues.
Update - Per the ADA, Radiation exposure associated with dentistry represents a minor contribution to the total exposure from all sources. http://www.ada.org/.../member.../oral-health-topics/x-rays
