| - I'll start by saying that it's probably unfair to review a restaurant of Harvest's caliber based on a stop during restaurant week. I had never eaten at Harvest before, but it's been on my list for a long time, and $25 for a Harvest meal is probably the best deal you can get. However, anyone who does food in Madison should expect that restaurant week, while it gives you a good opportunity to sample various spots without breaking the bank, does not always represent the restaurants at their best.
Anyways... I had a lovely meal. I stopped in on Sunday on my way home. I was on my own, which didn't bother me, but I was definitely out of place in the crowded dining room. I ate the chicken confit appetizer, the heirloom tomato risotto, and the mojito sorbet. Everything was relatively simple but had wonderful flavor. I don't remember the last time I actually ate chicken in a real restaurant but if they all tasted like that chicken I might do it more. The size was surprising for an appetizer (a whole thigh). The slaw was a nice, bright accompaniment. The risotto had lovely, bright flavors. I especially liked the basil oil at the base of the dish. The mojito sorbet was very good, but verrry sweet. I also did not get much "mojito" from it; seemed more like a lemoncello flavor, but still tasty. My only complaint with the dishes was presentation (it was just boring, not sloppy), but given the high output of restaurant week I wasn't surprised.
My server was excellent. Despite the high traffic, she made time to talk to me about the food and the restaurant and was very familiar with all the dishes.
