  • I have been anticipating Bonterra for over a year but haven't made the time until this most recent restaurant week. Unfortunately my experience will not have me going back for more. Our server was not helpful in the wine selection after he named off about six bottles that they were out of, including my top two selections. It would have been helpful to have some suggestions. When our appetizers arrived, it was evident that they had been plated way before we ordered because they came out in just a couple minutes with an extremely hot plate and moderately warm food. The other two courses followed suit. I really enjoyed the flavors of the roasted duck paired with root vegetable hash and green beans. The osso buco was not a table favorite as it was fairly plain and lacked any real flavor. Our server let us know that they were out of the trifle dessert that we requested, leaving us with the panna cotta and dark chocolate mousse. The panna cotta was amazing with local honey and a sweet brittle! Unfortunately the mousse was not very good at all. I could see how others would enjoy the bitter dark chocolate and paprika but we took one bite and it was pretty much inedible. While the food was not horrible and there were really delicious items on the limited restaurant week menu, it was the experience and service that really left me with an unpleasant taste. Throughout the three course meal, our server, our server appeared once - when the appetizers first arrived. We eventually had to stop the hostess to get our check. The whole dining experience seemed like a factory assembly line, trying to get customers in and out of the restaurant quickly with no sense of warmth. I really didn't feel that the value of the service and food was worth the amount of money I spent. I'm sure the menu and experience is probably a lot more pleasant outside of restaurant week, but I thought the whole point was to bring in new patrons and build repeat customers. This place has so much potential, but I most likely will not be returning.
