| - First things first, let's put it out there whom this hotel is for and whom it isn't for...
If you are a family, couple, even a group of friends, looking to do Vegas on a budget (That is, you're not trying to hassle with paying resort fees that most of Vegas hotel/casinos charge these days,) and if you're looking to stay as close to the strip as possible, while at the same time, being able to retreat away from the strip when it comes time to get some shut-eye, without worrying much as to the overall quality of your room, then this place is for you.
If you are trying to turn up, or are looking for the best Vegas experience out there, with friends or family, and wanting more of a luxurious stay, with ample amenities, while being in the center of everything in a vibrant location that is hustling/bustling with casino noise and tons of clubs and tourist traffic, then this place is not for you. Luxury and this specific Embassy Suite do not go hand-in-hand. Also, service here, beyond free breakfast/complimentary drinks daily, leaves much to be desired.
This is a very dated property that long ago wore out its allure. Also, you would THINK that this hotel being on the same road to the airport, literally a mile and some change from the airport, that they would offer shuttle service to the airport -- NOPE! No such thing here. They have a shuttle, but not much worth if it only takes you to/from the strip during certain specific hours. This is Vegas, a 24 hour city, whomever is the owner of this specific franchised hotel is trying to save on money by not offering a shuttle to/from the airport, and only limited outings to the strip.
That said, I knew exactly what I was getting myself into when I decided to stay at this Embassy Suites. I had already stayed a full week over at the lovely Palazzo, and wanted to spend the last couple days of my Vegas trip, away from the strip, using Hilton Honors points for a free stay. I knew that even though it was Vegas, there weren't going to be the amenities that I had staying at the Palazzo over at the Embassy Suites.
I've stayed at various Embassy Suites properties throughout the country with all the travel that I do. I know very well that many of them are franchised, and so there really isn't a standard that they all have. Having never stayed at this property, I went in with an open mind, figuring that since it was a rewards stay, as long as things were comfortable, that it would be alright.
Check-in was a breeze. It was the weekend after the 4th of July had passed, and so there is still a ton of Summer traffic coming to Vegas, and also they had a few family reunions going on at the same time (Johnson-Sanders) being one of them, I recall.
I got one of the rooms with a view of the strip (picture below,) so that was cool. I always do an initial inspection when I check into a room, to make sure things are good to go. The bathroom was absolutely a mess. The bath tub drain had a very brown moldy appearance from years of use. The maids didn't entirely clean the bath tub, as there were long hairs all over the bath tub, and to add insult to injury, there was an empty bottle of hotel shampoo at the top of the bath tub door railing. Totally disgusting. Then the sink in the bathroom, for the hot water, had to be left at a specific position (not the off position, for the actual knob went around 360 degrees, so it had to be left at a specific position for the hot water not to run.) What really got to me was that the toilet water was running all throughout my stay. I didn't think much of it, because closing the bathroom door you couldn't hear much in the bathroom. Let's just say that bathroom had definitely seen better days.
The bed, holy!!!! That mattress has definitely seen better days. I enjoy a comfortable mattress that actually molds itself to the contours of your body. Not so much with these super rigid beds. The mattress has no give. I had to literally sleep on my side, because the mattress was too firm, so much so that it was hurting my back.
I don't know if this hotel re uses the bedding from one stay to the next, or if the house cleaners have long hair or what, but on the white bedding, you could notice long strands of hair around the pillows and around the bedding at the base of the bed. Really disgusting. The worse part was on the side of the bed board, apparently a previous guest decided not to use a towel/napkin to wipe their snot and you could clearly see dried buggers on the side of the bed board. This I had to call in, and they came to clean it up after a while, but clearly utterly disgusting.
I was solo on this leg of my trip, and so figured I wouldn't bother with asking for a room change. But I will say that the room itself is not up to par to what I've experienced elsewhere at other Embassy Suites. Wouldn't stay here if I had to pay for it.
