| - I needed to get the prescription updated for my glasses and thought since I was in the area I would give this store a shot. I walked into the store and was greeted warmly. I told the staff what I wanted and was told that I would need to fill out paperwork. I asked how much the visit was going to cost me as I didn't want to waste anyone's time if it was out of my price range. The woman I spoke to said $59, which I thought was fair. I sat down and filled out the paper work, save for one which had to do with vision insurance I didn't have and medical insurance I wasn't using. I gave another staff member the forms back and notified her that I hadn't filled out that particular form. She and other staff members insisted that I fill it out. It was a formality they said, and I got the feeling that I wouldn't have been seen without it. Fair enough, I filled it out and sat back down.
As I was waiting, a family came in and was taken care of before me. I was confused, but let it slide. I hadn't been waiting very long. As it was nearing the time when my partner needed to be somewhere however, and I still hadn't been seen (this was around an hour's wait) I stood and asked the staff member I had given my forms to how much longer she anticipated me waiting. She pointed to a man who had come in about five minutes earlier and said he had an appointment and would be seen before me. Admittedly, I hadn't considered appointments when I had come in. I told the staff member, "That's something that I should have been told about beforehand." Another woman chimed in seemingly to take my side, but was interrupted by a rather rude gentleman who made a point to mention how they had "squeezed [me] in" and gave me a smile that was pointedly and intentionally meant to be passive aggressive. I repeated that I should have been informed of the anticipated wait time before any of this had started. That's just basic courtesy. A technician came to say that he was ready to have me come in. I asked how long the process would take and was told half an hour. Which I deemed unacceptable at that point because it would make us considerably late and it would make the gentleman who had an appointment wait well after his set appointment time. I asked for my paperwork back (which, to their credit I was given) and left.
In this case, the reason for one star was a culmination of things. First, that no information was provided to me which indicates somewhat of a shady business practice. Second, that the staff seemingly no interest in their clients; whether they be walk-ins or those with appointments. Third, that the staff (particularly the tall thin gentleman with the scruffy beard) was intentionally rude. This last point is with the exception of the older woman with the long dark hair in the green blouse and the technician who, while I did not have a chance to talk with him, seemed very nice when talking to the customers who had gone before me.
