| - I was visiting Charlotte for a mini vacation to visit a good friend who recently moved to the city. She heard about the brunch scene and really wanted to experience it. So after some research and reading reviews about Zada Jane's and looking at the menu we decided this was the place. My major turning point for selecting this place was because of the menu. It is different and that is what I like. (P.s my review and D G's are very similar because I am "the friend" in hers... hehe)
As mentioned, breakfast/brunch hours there was a long wait. About 25 minutes, so my friend and I took a stroll to the bakery down the street. After our stroll back, it was about our turn. We were seated at the first available spot, the bar. I typically avoid bar service because a. I cannot people watch, b. the seats are not so comfy, and c. it is hard to converse with the person you're with. Alas, I gave in because of hunger and said please, seat us anywhere.
Service was great. Typically you would think bar service when it is so busy isn't so great. Our guy was friendly, prompt and attentive. Our food came out within a very reasonable time of order. I was very satisfied.
Food- I ordered the Booker T which is sweet potato home fries with 2 eggs with local pork sausage cooked and placed atop of it with a homemade biscuit. Portion size was good, especially it being local eggs and pork. Overall flavor, I enjoyed the sweet potato home fries, my only gripe would be while seasoned well, I wish they were cooked a little bit more so they had a little bit more texture. It was just mushy, not even a little bit of crunchy caramelization of the sweet potato. The egg sausage was cooked to my liking. I like them JUST done, as in still soft and fluffy, but not wet. This was a godsend to my picky way of how I like my eggs cooked. My friend got essentially the breakfast salad with bacon, an overeasy egg and biscuit. The bacon was perfectly crisp, not greasy, and the greens very fresh. We were both very happy with our choices. We both had leftovers. For me, that is unusual. So that shows how filling the Booker T was.
Overall, if I visit Charlotte again, I'd go back to Zada Jane's if I was looking for not your typical brunch fair. I did not find pricing to be really overpriced. Besides, if the food is good I take no issue with paying a little bit extra. Also, the fact that they use local ingredients is always a plus to me.
