I love Pho. Yes I pronounce it right. "F-UH" I have been an aPhocianado for quite a while. In Vancouver, I lived near Kingsway aka Pho-alley where it was like little Vietnam: Starbucks: 0. Pho places: a plethura. Some even right next to each other 'cuz like any good Pho lover knows each shop has its own broth style.
I can't say that Da Vang is the best I've ever had, because it's not. I can say that I have been there about a dozen times because it's good and consistent. Great prices, good selection for the more adventurous and it's always really busy with Asians of all ilks including Vietnamese (good sign) and everyone else. That isn't due to it being a tiny hole-in-the-wall: it's huge inside. Busy=high turn-over which means fresh food.
Now it has all of the typical elements one comes to expect in a Pho place: emotionless but prompt service, divey atmosphere and horrible bathrooms; all fine by mean as long as the pho pleases. It does at Da Vang.
I'm always suspicious of any pho place that's quiet, super clean and empty. Give me busy and a tad gross any day. My wife and I were brought that much closer together thanks to our mutual love of this delicious soup. We often had Pho for breakfast when we were first dating. Any woman willing to have pho as a cornerstone to a scrumptious breakfast rates highly in my book!
If you're new to Phoenix and need a little comPHOrt, look no further than Da Vang!
