| - My senior-citizen mother was involved in a car collision and a driver named Vlad from Paramount Towing was on the scene when I arrived there. My mother was in shock, and sitting in the passenger seat of his truck to rest, but cognitively, she was off. The driver told me he had arranged for a rental car via insurance, and that my mother had asked for her car to be towed to our usual collision shop our family has always used. He agreed to take it there, and promised to, to both myself and my mother.
A rental car arrived at the scene of the accident, from a company I have never heard of (Vaughan O), and I was trying to help my mother answer questions of the paramedics on scene, so I was distracted. I signed for the rental car and the ambulance took my mother to the hospital. The rental employee dropped the rental at my mother's house, and I followed the ambulance. While I was following, I saw the tow truck make a turn to the east, when he should've been going west. But I figured maybe he was dropping the rental employee off.
Once my mother had been seen by the doctor, she asked me to check that our shop had received the car. I called, and they knew nothing of it. I called Paramount, and they gave me some BS story about how they couldn't have towed it to our shop because a claim had not yet been opened through our insurance. If the driver had told me that at the scene, I would have called to open it immediately. But he had said it would not be an issue to drop it where we had asked. Instead, the dispatch was telling me that the car was at their lot. I called my mother's insurance adjuster immediately, and he said I needed to call them back and say the car was to be released immediately, and that our shop would be coming to get it. The person at Paramount said he'd release it, but needed to talk to our adjuster first. I had to call the adjuster back, and he thought it rather strange that he needed to talk to him. They essentially had stolen my mother's car, and would not release it until they ensured payment from the insurance company, including storage fees for storing the car on their lot which we never gave permission for them to do in the first place. Further, the rental company was one our insurance had never heard of, and they advised us that depending on what they charge for the rental, we'd have return it and switch to an approved company.
They are running a complete racket! This should be illegal! And the guy on the phone at Paramount also refused to speak to our collision shop to arrange the release. Our collision shop had tried to call him, but he wouldn't answer the phone so I had called again, got through and offered to connect our shop via conference, but he said he'd only talk to our adjuster. I was dealing with all this, while I just wanted to make sure my mother was OK, and the whole situation was giving her more anxiety than she could handle in the circumstances.
What was already a nightmare for my mother and our family was made so much worse by these unethical opportunists. Beware of Vlad, and Paramount Towing.
I believe there's justice heading for those who profit on the vulnerability and suffering of others in their lowest times.
