| - I had the opportunity to participate in a group training session with Unionville Fitness for a Yelp event. We trained with U Fit owner, Sabiha Rizvi. On top of being a trainer, she doubles as a nutrition consultant.
To explain further, Unionville Fitness is essentially a personal training service based out of the AllCore Fitness gym around Warden and Denison. The gym is owned by a separate entity, and houses other trainers who offer their services to other clients.
So what do I think about the training? For once, I'll refrain from giving a firm opinion considering that this was a sponsored event rather than the typical training session. What I will mention is that the training that U Fit caters to appears to be a fair bit of calisthenics, with some added low intensity resistance training. If you're looking for a lifestyle change and want a guided introduction to fitness, I'd say that this would be a fine place to start. This would probably also suit you if your goal is to stay active and get an honest sweat. Just don't make the mistake of thinking that you're going to be dabbling with powerlifting/weightlifting. From the weight and equipment selection, you can tell that the facility does not lend to heavy resistance training.
I should also mention that this is a trainer lead facility, i.e. coming in solo whenever you choose and busting out a workout is a no-go. Bummer right? Hey, that's the deal. No shade to U Fit and AllCore though, as this is typically the setup with these crossfit-esque gyms.
For the service that is provided, the facility appears to be well equipped, featuring a modest set of dumbbells, TRX equipment, a mid-sized free standing rig, a couple barbells, etc.
Getting into fitness, or looking to stay active in the south Markham area? I'd say that it's worth a shot.
