| - I have a love-hate relationship with this place, and it's not because of the drinks or food. It's the service that keeps me confused.
The wine selection is stellar, and the food has its proper fit. Sure the bruschetta is a hallmark dish and the chicken salad is a delight...but let's be honest with ourselves: most of us do not flock to Postino for *only* the food.
With solid drinks, but stable food, a lot is left to the server experience.
Therein lies the problem. Why? Because Postino seems to take a co-op or commune approach to their serving. Essentially, you don't have one server assigned to you (at least that's what they tell me). Table service is shared. Servers generally float around, check in, and get ppl what they need.
This approach would work...if every hipster-server had the right balance of social skills and a keen awareness of what's going on around them. But we all know that is asking *way* too much from any hipster. So, your co-op dining experience quickly turns into an orphan experience, i.e., you are constantly searching for someone to take care of you.
This all leads to varied experiences: on one visit, the tattoo-laced servers are on point...the next day the servers are aimlessly walking past me, exerting all their effort in trying master the lyrics to a Smashing Pumpkins single that's blaring from the sound system.
It's all confusing to me.
Postino: stop trying to live on the fringes of society and, please, just go back to an assigned server model.
