  • Love Me Sweet is not That Other Japanese Cheesecake Place. Let me TL;DR this upfront: Love Me Sweet is good in its own right, and I wouldn't say it's bad at all, it's just *different*. Sure, the cake is the same size, price range, similar taste and texture, and even nestled inside the same moisture-wicking wrapper and paper box, branded on the top with the same postioning (yet obviously different) logo. I'm pretty sure the difference is that That Other Place uses more eggs. As other reviewers have attested, the taste is slightly less "eggy". It's also a bit less sweet. But I also think it changes the texture a little bit - it's a little less creamy, the way that egg yolks in a custard base for ice cream makes the whole shebang a little ~smoother~ (those are my wiggly ~smooth~ motion arms). That said, the "mouthfeel" says to me that I think they substituted with ingredient with more flour and a bit more cream cheese to try and compensate. It's something about the way that when you cut into the cake, the crumbs are...crumbier. Drier? Me no can English right now. Also, recommend the Original over Coffee (Chocolate was sold out that day). Friends enjoyed the coffee, while my partner felt it tasted like overly milky/creamy coffee, whereas I feel like it just didn't taste like very good coffee (rich or multifaceted in flavour). But hey, the whole cake was like $12! What do we expect, the civet stuff?! If you're super picky for That Other Place, then I'd think you might be a little disappointed here just because you won't get that exact same texture. But considering: a) There's no lineup, b) Very little wait time, if any (like ~10 minute wait if you wanna wait to watch them pull out a fresh cake out of the oven), c) They accept debit/credit and not just cash, d) There's ample parking, e) You might come across the option of buying an imperfect cake for ~$2 less vs That Other Place just dumping it out producing waste - I'm OK with this place and will very likely be coming back again. Sh-weeeeet.
