| - Want people snooping through your apartment? Want to be harassed and followed? Want to feel unsafe in your home? Not enough drama in your life? Hate professional landlords? Union Real Estate might be great for you!
AVOID AVOID AVOID! Union Real Estate is a mess! Here are some facts on behalf of a tenant who has stayed there.
- The apartment was not ready on the specified move-in date.
- The apartment was entered by Union Real Estate staff without notice (prior or post - NO notice) on more than one occasion.
- On-site building manager accused me (a frequent visitor) of being the homeless man sleeping in their laundry room (apparently they actually had this problem before). When corrected by the contractor who initially incorrectly identified me as the homeless man (because the homeless person was also wearing a red jacket), somehow the rumor still persisted. I am not homeless. I am well groomed. I work in software.
- The on-site building manager followed me around on numerous occasions while I was visiting the tenant. They claimed that I sleep in their stairwells and live there. Meanwhile, I live one block away and was just visiting my girlfriend who lived there. It was a really, REALLY strange situation. Surreal.
- Mary, Coronado building manager, told my girlfriend that because she entered the apartment (again, unannounced) at some point before and saw stuff of mine there, she "knows" that I live there. Again, this is irrelevant and pointless to discuss, but just highlighting their antics. Yes, if you are dating somebody that you see frequently, you are going to have stuff at each other's places.
- Mary, the manager of the Coronado building in Pittsburgh, insulted the tenants (in a general way) on social media, tagging her boss. Her boss "liked" the insulting post.
- Tenant and myself got hung up on when we called to complain about the building manager Mary to her boss Mary. Before hanging up, Mary's boss (also named Mary) again accused me of being homeless, sleeping in their staircases and laundry room, etc. Again, I had my own apartment about a block away. These accusations were hilarious, confusing, and categorically ridiculous. And the situation was so absurd that it doesn't even seem real. (I'd be scratching my head if I was another person reading this review - this situation was SO weird)
- This was a very strange and uncomfortable situation. I was a businessman with an apartment, groomed, and well-dressed, being accused of being homeless because I was wearing a jacket that was the same color of a homeless person who they alleged was sleeping in their laundry room. The contractor who mistakenly identified me to the building manager Lista apologized when they saw me up close and realized that I wasn't the person that they saw in the laundry room. But from there, for whatever reason, the entire office repeatedly continued to accuse me of being a homeless person, the building manager going so far as to follow me around around the complex when I came to visit my girlfriend. I can't properly get across how ridiculous this situation was in written-word - it's like The Twilight Zone or something that would happen in a comedic movie.
- In conjunction with the Facebook post described earlier, it is clear how they regard their tenants.
- The company never apologized for the tenant's negative experiences. (update January 17, 2018: still never heard back from the company for their troubling, shameful antics)
- Read the other reviews. Form your own opinion.
***Update January 2018***
I got messages / complements from people who read this review. I appreciate them!
In hindsight, the behavior of this company is completely disgusting and if we had to go through it again, I definitely would have called the police on their building manager Lista for following me around. I even hired a bodyguard for the final walk through, not knowing what to expect. The company never once apologized to the tenant despite me emailing a number of their executives. They never even replied or followed up in any way. Everything points to the Coronado building management still working there and our complaints not being taken seriously.
Looking back, the situation was completely ridiculous and I've never experienced anything like it before. The lack of any contact / apology / follow-up from them demonstrates a systemic pattern of disrespect for tenants. The manager's Facebook status said "Every day I arrive at work with good intentions and a great attitude... Then idiots happen." and her boss, the director of residential management, liked the status. They all still work there and this situation was never properly addressed. This trash company needs to be held accountable through our wallets - choose another apartment provider, unless if you want to be followed around or your apartment snooped through!
