| - We have used CVS on numerous occasions. We appreciated the care they took with our heart-patient dog years ago, as they were the only vet clinic that had a canine cardiologist on staff. We also had a dog with some joint/orthopedic issues and took him there; I'm not keen on the orthopedic surgeon at this practice, so we will not go back to him, either. He was not helpful, didn't explain his diagnosis to us and was kind of, well, a jerk.
However, my biggest complaint (and the reason for 2 stars, bordering on 1 star) came when our very precious 14-year old dog was having problems. She'd been having some issues, and eventually she stopped eating, so I took her in and they said she should be admitted - fine. They conducted a sonogram of her belly and found that she had some "masses" and acute pancreatitis and said she should be kept overnight to have fluids administered and to be monitored, since the pancreatitis was causing her severe pain. Fine. I asked to be called in the morning, as I wanted to see her and know how she was. They left a message, we called back. Apparently, they had given her too much fluid (the vet admitted it was a bad call) and one of the masses had "moved" and basically, our dog was dying. We jumped in the car and SPED to this clinic. We were escorted into a room and unfortunately, we had to make the decision to euthanize our beloved dog. Apparently, she'd had an accident in her cage that morning and was not doing well. We waited for them to bring her to us and I was horrified that they made her WALK OUT to us using a belly sling - you know, one of those slings that goes around the belly and there are straps above her spine that a person can "carry" to support a dog's hind end? They were DRAGGING her into the room, as she couldn't even walk. She was then, unceremoniously, dropped on the floor (again, she couldn't walk and she certainly couldn't lie down) and she crumpled on top of her own legs. I was sobbing, she was shaking uncontrollably and the entire situation was made 100x worse by their ill-treatment of a dog in considerable pain who was facing her last moments on earth. I have no idea why she wasn't brought to us on a gurney. It still bothers me to this day.
In the end, our bill was $1,600 after being told by the vet that they had over-administered fluids and basically caused the mass to move; I know this wasn't malicious, but I can't help wondering why she wasn't monitored more closely so this wouldn't happen, as I thought that was the point of leaving her there overnight. Then, they drag her out of her cage and dump her on the floor where we had to say our goodbyes. Honestly, they made a heart-breaking decision so much worse than it needed to be. By simply having the good sense to put her on a gurney so she wouldn't have to endure a belly sling - I mean, she had acute pancreatitis and severe stomach pain, amplified by being bloated caused by too much fluid (that they gave her) and they couldn't make the call NOT to put her through more suffering in a belly sling? I'm not a vet or a vet tech, but even I know that was a horrible decision.
I might use them again for small, after-hours, emergencies, but I would NEVER let another dog of mine be admitted to this clinic overnight; nor would I ever leave the heart-wrenching process of euthanasia to them, ever again. The staff is nice, but I question their decisions and treatment of our girl, and because of that, I cannot recommend them to anyone facing a similar situation. I would also never go back to the orthopedic surgeon as I found him to be unhelpful and pretentious.
