| - OK. You have an emergency. Water. Smoke. Whatever. You call someone, say Puroclean, they show up and throw a blank contract in your face and say they won't work until you sign it. You look at the water on the floor and you sign it. Congratulations. Here are some tips so you don't get ripped off like I did. You are buying a service AND renting equipment. Every piece of equipment that walks in your door, whether or not it gets used, gets charged for. For me, there were dehydrators that weren't used that I had to pay for. (My insurance adjuster outright laughed when she saw how many dehydrators were used and commented that she does Louisiana floods and they don't use that many). Also - when your 'team' doesn't show up because of another call (like after a monsoon)...you're still paying for the equipment. Take lots of pictures, because they take lots of their own to document their work but if something gets broken, suddenly that picture is not available. Be aware that what they write down has no real bearing on what they decide to charge you. Our bill was 40% higher than their estimate. If you go through the invoice you'll find references to doors being removed that don't exist. Or work done in rooms that didn't have anything done. Their response is "the software does that, you just have to pay". If you have an insurance claim, you can be screwed as your insurance company may not release your funds if you don't get a signed zero balance invoice from the contractor. So - if they won't negotiate with you or at least make their invoice correct, they hold all the cards. So, count every piece of equipment, make sure it's necessary and get them out as soon as possible.
