| - I believe that at least 2 laws were broken on the ride we took from the Bellagio Hotel to Cashman Field on Wed., August 17th. When I take a cab, there is a reasonable expectation of competence and legal driving by the professional at the wheel; neither of these occurred on our ride in Henderson Cab #5658 that evening.
When we got into the cab, there were 2 red flags. First, the driver did not know where Cashman Field was. He asked us to use our own GPS for directions! Also, the temperature in the cab was extremely hot. We asked the driver (twice) to turn up the air conditioning, but it was obvious that it was not functioning. I'm told that NV law requires operational air conditioning (and heat) in all cabs, but that was not the case in cab #5658 on Wednesday.
Besides a driver who did not know where he was going and broken air conditioning, our driver ran right through a stop sign! He obviously didn't see it, because he did not even slow down. We didn't realize that besides being in a cab where the driver was incompetent, and being in a cab with non-functional air conditioning, we had put our lives in our hands when we stepped into that Henderson cab. Only by the grace of God was no one else at that 4-way intersection when we went speeding right through it.
When our ride ended, 45-minutes after it began (our GPS indicated that it should have taken 20 minutes!), our driver was not apologetic at all. The fare was some $40 for the ride we wished we had never taken. I gave the driver a one-dollar tip - and I feel he was over-tipped. Needless to say, rather than risk a similar experience on our way back, we called an Uber. It cost us less that $15, and it took less than 20 minutes.
We typically visit Las Vegas twice a year. We will never again patronize Henderson cab, and we will discourage others at our convention from doing so either. We have, however, followed the advice on the sign in the cab to contact the Nevada State Taxi Authority about this matter.
Sincerely,
Timothy R.
