Our party of 3 arrived at 7PM for the first day of restaurant week, which was coincidentally also Martini Monday! Also, I believe that the deal on MM is that you buy the first 5 cocktails and get the 6th free. Pretty sweet, huh? I ordered the martini special (strawberrijito I think is what she called it) which our server recommended, and just like she said, it tasted like strawberry lemonade. I couldn't even taste the vodka! Dangerous.
The restaurant week menu was impressive - although not as large as some other restaurant's - but we also had the option of ordering the items on the menu a la carte, which was nice to have as an option.
I ordered the: meatball flight, nori-wrapped salmon rolls, and the mud pie. I also tried some of my friend's chimi churri steak, eggplant fries, and lemon meringue pie.
The meatball flight was an interesting assortment of meatballs: a buffalo chicken meatball, a bacon-wrapped meatball, a mac-n-cheese "meatball," and a scone meatball. Of the four, the bacon-wrapped was my favorite. It had a nice, caramelized, smokey flavor and was delicious! My least favorite was definitely the mac-n-cheese. It was just a deep-fried ball of mac-n-cheese, sans meat. It honestly could have been left out of the meatball flight, but it seemed to me like they were grasping at straws to fill the last little well in the 4-well dish.
I thought the salmon rolls were delicious. Of the three entrees, both the salmon rolls and the chimi churri steak came highly recommended. Of course, the salmon rolls was the lighter of the two entrees. It has a slight asian influence, and comes seated on a bed of asian veggies drenched in teriyaki dressing. Overall, I thought it was an interesting and beautifully presented dish.
The chimi churri steak was not bad either. The steak is cooked medium (I don't think you are given a choice) and served atop some grits. The grits were a little too salty, but I thought the chimi churri sauce and the steak were a great combination.
Finally, the dessert. The mud pie was really sweet, but it was a great touch to end the meal with. I actually got to try all three of the desserts on the menu because we all ordered different things, and I have to say that the mud pie was my favorite. I'm a huge chocolate lover though...so you'll have to take my opinion with a grain of salt. :P
All in all, it was a very enjoyable dinner, and if I had had any more room left in my stomach, I would have convinced myself to take a piece of the red velvet cake to go!
