Recently, my longtime barber went out of business and I was left searching for a new barbershop. After having a bad haircut at a shop in NDG, I began to search in earnest for a reputable hair stylist. I undertook an online search of experiences other men have had in terms of male barbershops and the Montallegro Barbershop kept coming up with perfect and near-perfect ratings and so I decided to pay a visit.
This is an old school Italian barbershop. If you are looking for a young, trendy Plateau type hipster to cut your hair, this place is not for you. It is operated and staffed by two mature barbers who appear to be very experienced, dedicated and who enjoy their profession very much. The shop is ideally located directly across the street from the Parc Avenue Metro on the Metro's blue line.
I arrived on a Friday morning at approximately 11 am. There was one customer in the chair and another waiting to be served. I watched the barber intently and it was evident that he was an experienced barber. As I waited and observed a second barber named Giuseppe arrived and he was the barber who cut my hair. He took his time and gave me a great haircut. I would note that he had to first fix the bad haircut I had previously had at another barbershop. He did so, took his time and when he was done I was very happy with the cut. The price for the haircut was $25 which included a wash, tip not included. While the cost was much higher than my last barber, the haircut was worth every penny. I will be returning. Not a hair out of place! Well worth the money!
