I have tried to sell at Platos Closet several times over the past few years. Each time it ends in extreme frustration. On my most recent trip I had just moved and had two full bags of clothing (most of which was hardly worn if worn at all). I stopped at both Platos Closet and Clothes Mentor, which is the "grown up" resale shop owned by the owners of Platos.
As usual Platos bought hardly any of my clothing. The few things they did purchase were less than 6 months old and cost me $50-60 a piece. The highest amount that I got for a single item was $4. In addition when they told me that my brands were not what they were looking for (my stuff is Express, F21, Macys), I asked what they were looking for. I received "Ed Hardy" as an answer and couldn't help but laugh.
Onto Clothes Mentor where I took my professional clothing that was all in even better condition. The young girl working there wearing spandex leopard leggings did not greet me and acted irritated when I said I had clothes to sell. She told me 10 minutes and my name would be called so I walked around the store. 25 minutes later I see my name on the board and no one called my name. I went us and asked her and she snapped "Is your name on the board?" I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE STORE. She proceeded to tell me that they were buying ONE item and I asked why. She acted unbelievably rude and said that my clothes were too old. I told her they are less than two years to which she snapped that they want 6 months and under. I asked who sells clothes within 6 months of buying them brand new and she gave me an "um actually a lot of people." She proceeded to give me my 3 dollars while saying the f word when the register didn't open. All in all a disgusting experience. I will not be back and I hope others don't waste their time either.
