  • A vegetarian at Cure, an unlikely love affair: As a vegetarian, I had been foolishly ignoring Cure despite it being on multiple lists of trendy places to try in Pittsburgh. I thought there was no way it would cater to my dietary restriction based mainly on the name and concept, and also because it sort of smells like prosciutto inside. So when the opportunity to join some friends came up last Wednesday, I agreed to go simply to try out some of the drinks and see how they liked it. I had no idea I would be in for one of the best entrees I've ordered off a menu in a long time! One thing I immediately loved about this place is that their menu allows for half and whole portions for most of the items. Perfect for all different scenarios- you usually don't finish a whole entree, you like eating half and taking leftovers, you like sharing multiple entrees without wasting, etc. Its all covered when you're able to manipulate your portion size. Great feature. We started with a half order of the Bread and Butter which was great for three not-super-hungry people who were in the mood for a snack but nothing too heavy. The hunk of focaccia that came was fresh and delicious. My friends enjoyed the whipped lard spread while I loved on the olive tapenade. When it came to entrees I was surprised at how badly I wanted to try one of the pasta dishes, despite coming under the assumption that I wouldn't be eating. I took a half order of the Ricotta Gnudi and was blown away. A generous portion of buttery truffles were sprinkled on top of delectable homemade (??) gnudi and the pecorino blended in was the perfect final touch. To be honest, this is one of the best entrees I have had the pleasure of consuming in Pittsburgh. The half order would have been the perfect size for a full dinner, but I took a little home to enjoy the next day and didn't regret it. Definitely one of the pricier options on the pasta side of things, likely because of the truffles, but absolutely worth it. For what it's worth, I would highly recommend this dish to vegetarians and meat eaters alike. And to all the vegetarians out there like me, who felt a bit awkward about walking into a meat-centered dining experience, I hope this debunks your fears!
