| - We have stayed at the DC twice, the first visit was in Aug. 2009 and the second in Oct. 2011. The most recent visit had us staying in the most disgusting, deplorable and dilapidated hotel rooms I have yet to encounter - ever.
We checked in with our 4 month old in tow at 12:30am and hurriedly unpacked and tried to settle in ourselves and the baby. We gave her much attention while waiting for the crib to be delivered and once she was down, we were unpacked and changed in to our comfy clothing we were able to take a breath and check out our surroundings after a whirlwind arrival.
The room was gross. There was urine on the toilet seat and a thick layer of dust throughout the room.
We tried to call both the front desk and concierge but decided to just go to sleep after phone calls went unanswered. It was now 1:30am, the baby was asleep and we were tired.
At 8:30am, I went downstairs to request a new room and assistance with our luggage and the transfer of the crib.
The pleasant manager on duty arranged for us to be moved to a room with a kitchenette, a supposed upgrade. She greatly reduced the rate for that evening and that paired with the upgraded room was a sufficient solution to our problem. She also assured me she would have a bellman at our room in 20 minutes.
20 turned into 45 and at this point, the baby is sleeping - in the crib. Her nap time is interrupted by a bellman who is having a bad day, or a bad week or maybe even a miserable life. He was kind of a jerk.
We arrived in the new room and again, quickly needed to tend to our daughter's needs and then arrange ourselves to get going for the day as we had lost over an hour with visiting the manager, packing our room and switching the room along with setting up.
This room was filthy as well. The wallpaper was peeling, the air conditioning unit had leaks coming down the walls, the bath faucet dripped, the tiles around the commode were missing, falling off and had grout between them and the kitchen was even worse. The stove had grease and dust caked in the corners. In fact, when our baby sitter boiled water for tea, the dust began to smoke and set off the fire alarm!
What's worse? The TV BLEW UP the first time I turned it on. The TV shut off and then I heard a fizz and sparking sound followed by an overwhelming smoke cloud. It took security 12 minutes to arrive. We received additional comps but never did get a new TV.
The gym is set up so that the cardio equipment shares a space with the indoor adult pool. This makes for a very muggy and sweaty work out, especially during the summer. In fact, even during the fall as I had a 7.5 mile run to do during this trip. It was like running outside anywhere in Florida, or Houston for that matter.
Beyond the rooms and the gym, there are some aspects of the hotel that I could see us enjoying. There is an indoor family pool, game room and craft room with plenty of toys for all ages. Additionally, the location is fantastic as it is very close to shopping, restaurants, parks and the Eaton Center. However, with the incredibly poor quality of rooms, filthy surroundings and outdated and dangerous electrical equipment I cannot recommend this hotel.
