I actually went to two of the RRS locations here in Phoenix (first the Tempe one and then the Scottsdale one). I am looking into competing in my first 5k this year as a goal and never had specific running shoes. I had heard RRS does a lot in regards to customizing your shoe and I wasn't disappointed. Their customer service was great if not overbearing and I'm pretty picky when it comes to design, feel etc. I found it a little odd that the person doing the Shoe Dog analysis isn't the one who proceeds to sell you the shoes. Seems a bit ridiculous if you ask me. They then pitch you their custom soles (which are nice...but pricey too). That being said I really appreciated the personal attention even though my salesperson would just take off on me randomly...which ended up with me leaving after 15 minutes (because it does tend to take 30-45 minutes of your time if you're there).
I wasn't ready to purchase so no harm done and I actually ended up purchasing shoes here on my next visit but it's hard to be the sense of confidence you get when you're fitted with the right shoe and that the person explains why. I recommend the VIP program too if you're going to purchase more than just one pair (strongly suggest purchasing your first year online for a deep deep discount ($1.99) versus what you'll be offered in the store). Can definitely recommend it despite the time consuming process of being fitted, etc. If you're an experienced runner unlike myself it's hard to find a better place for your running shoes and gear.
