| - I'll start by saying, I didn't know very much about Jewelry, nor settings, nor metals, etc. prior to going to Crawfords. I'm certainly not a subject matter expert now, but I know more thanks to Crawford's. They are/were incredibly knowledgeable and candid in their feedback. For instance: I wanted to get a Platinum Ring. Why? Because I was under the misapprehension that it is/was Awesomer than White Gold. Wrongedy Wrong Wrong. They explained that Platinum is great, but swim in the ocean and it'll look like a piece of old pipe as the iridium (sp?) coating will be stripped by salt water.
I had bought a (custom) Engagement Ring from them in 2007...they were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about the nature of Burmese Rubies vs. that of say, other Rubies. I chose from a varity of various stones, sizes, clarity, etc. for the setting, the finish, the antiquing, etc. So in terms of being "involved" they don't take artistic license. They ask you every step of the way, what you'd like to do with a design, the advantages vs. any disadvantages, etc.
Really, if you're getting a custom piece of jewelry made ie: an Engagement Ring - I can't recommend them enough.
