| - For what it is, it's pretty good!
My friends and I went to Vegas specifically to check this place out. Luckily, it was during the weekend playoff weekend (after the week of them crazy a$$ winter weather we were having in San Diego). There was a lot of new snow and by nature's blessing, that weekend was dry and sunny!
It was busy that weekend, as you can imagine. I talked to a few of the locals and they said they have never seen it so busy EVER... I'm guessing it's because of the recent weather.
The ticket and rental lines kind of remind me of Snow Summit. Luckily, we got there pretty early so we didn't have to wait too long. If you get there late, parking sucks. Not that it's disorganized but there isn't really a parking lot. There are parking spaces along side the road, so the more cars there are, the farther you park. The road basically ends at the entrance to the resort. I believe they have a shuttle that can take you from the far ends of the parking "lot" though...
BTW, "resort" is used very loosely... If you're thinking of it like Mammoth or Heavenly, you'll be EXTREMELY dissappointed... this place is no "resort" in that sense...
The mountain is decent. If you've ever skied West Resort at Mt. High, then that's basically LVSSR. I'd estimate that this place is half the size of Mt. High/s West Resort.
The chairlifts are pretty darn old though and they go at a real slow speed so it takes a good few minutes to get to the top of the lift.
There are three lifts. One for the bunny slope which is probably awesome for beginners because it's groomed and the slope isn't that steep at all. There's a lift that goes to up the left side of the resort which is basically all intermediate runs and then one lift that goes up the right side of the resort which has intermediate, black diamond runs, and some jumps and other park stuff...
The food was actually pretty good! I'd say better and slightly cheaper than Mt. High. I bought a hotdog w/ chips and a Gatorade for $8. They also sold burgers and pizza but I hear that the pizza was expensive as hell. And all the employees of LVSSR that I came in contact with all seemed very nice...
All in all, I had an awesome experience at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort. This place definitely has a lot of potential in becoming an awesome resort if they expanded.
It is definitely an alternative to spending the day on the Strip. As of writing this review, all day tickets are $50 and half-day tix are $45 (starts at noon). The resort is open from 9am to 5pm. I heard that they were opening up the resort for some night riding too but I'm not sure...
One thing that this resort has over a lot of the other resorts I've been too is that there is an awesome night life about 45 minutes away... :)
If you're not a snow-snob, this place is definitely worth trying out...
