| - I feel blessed knowing that I am able to donate my time to help those in need. If you are looking for volunteer opportunites, give the folks over at Las Vegas Rescue Mission a look.
Las Vegas Rescue Mission is actually a drug rehabilitation program located on Bonanza. There are residents who live on property, and they also provide shelter and hot meals to homeless people.
Our group arrived around 4:30pm and were given hair nets, aprons and rubber gloves, along with a quick orientation. We started out by placing a spoon and napkin in styrofoam cups and placing them on trays. We also filled pitchers with ice and water and placed 2 on each table.
Once it was time to open, 6 people were assigned to the hot line, where they put food on the trays. 1 person was the meal "counter," and 2 people handed out the trays to those in line. I was assigned to be a rover in the room, helping to clear trays and refill water pitchers. There were also 2 people roving with salt/pepper/hot sauce.
Everyone - from the staff, to those we fed, were nothing short of amazing. Everyone was so appreciative. This was the quickest 2 hours I've ever spent and I can't wait to go back!
Trust me, giving back is so worth it. Not everyone can afford monetary donations, but everyone can find 2 hours out of their busy lives to help out someone else. Your heart will be full after seeing the smiles you'll get from these people.
