| - A double date dinner ensued within a strange blend of cacophony & a bit of intimacy--as long as our conversations were more vociferous than usual. As a gastropub, nestled in the Old Town of Scottsdale, CPH equally focuses on their large, encircling bar, practically in the center of their contemporary, fine dine-esque ambiance. Speaking of bar, I began imbibing on this weirdly calming Persian ($9), evidently consisting of cucumber juice, wild tea vodka, & the wondrous St. Germain elderflower liqueur.
DL, Angela T, Kurdy S, & I initially shared with one that's highly recommended that you'd have to check CPH's Facebook for their ingredients--we knew & tasted why. The Original Chopped Salad ($12) was marvelously delicious & amazingly textured for its strong yet well-balanced ingredients: smoky salmon pieces, perfectly firm couscous, verdant arugula, perfectly crunchy freeze-dried corn, humble aged asiago cheese, & intricately robust yet controllable dressing. It may look so modest, but based on the numerous items (including some I didn't list here) I can imagine splurging half of them just to amalgamate this healthy salad.
Then each of us got an entrée that we were personally hankering for. I persistently leaned on the Lamb Burger ($13), which I thought it was juicy, well-seasoned & quite vigorously gamey. The Kennebec Fries were consistently textured well while surmounting a strong aroma of truffle oil. Though to be frank I would've greatly raved for this burger if the Serbian Lepinja roll (aka the buns) weren't stiff, which deemed too difficult to cut it and become safely shareable.
At 1st we were expressively reluctant to order the Buttermilk Roasted Chicken ($20), which was a white meat dish. But after asking questions & then receiving well-thought consultations from our exuberantly friendly waiter, we're so blessed that we didn't choose the alternate (which was this Rockfish plate). It was the biggest chicken breast I've ever delved into--at 2 days of marinating, followed by some grilling sensation--pleasurably savoring into such incredibly moist, sweet & savory, & complexly scrumptious hunk of lightly colored meat. Whether eaten alone or with the poultry the sweet corn-butter bean succotash was indescribably tasty, though the Brussels sprouts here were more in a bitter side for my palate.
Conclusively, I would have graded CPH slightly lower due to the burger, noise bouncing off the walls all-over & difficult menu-perusing in a very dimly lit atmosphere that maybe a few chandeliers would be more helpful, esp for photo-taking =P. Fortunately, our applauding, exceptionally knowledgeable waiter &, consequently, the utmost deliciousness of the chicken and salad made a surprisingly outstanding dinner for me that I'll gladly present this Scottsdale eat a 4.5. Although we arrived w/o reservations, the increasing crowd later in the night would speak for itself. And if you're completely unfamiliar w/ its neighborhood, you can either park street for free at their 3-hour limit or, if they're not available, on one of those parking garages.
