| - I'm always on the hunt for a decent pub meal, so The Abbot was a natural choice for a Sunday brunch.
I feel like you can't really go wrong with Eggs Benedict, and while The Abbot does indeed have that dish on its menu, I opted to go with the more exotic sounding Cheddar Buck Rarebit. (2 poached eggs, house made peameal bacon, english muffin, cheddar beer sauce, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit.)
So there was really nothing that wholeheartedly worked in this dish. The English muffin was barely toasted and tasted like the generic kind you'd buy at the supermarket, while the bacon was so sparse I could barely even tell it was there. I will admit that the eggs were cooked quite well, so there's that at least. But the cheddar beer sauce was incredibly weak and kind of bland, frankly.
The breakfast potatoes were fine but nothing special, while the "fresh fruit" had clearly emerged from a store-bought fruit cup.
The ambiance is fine for what it is and I would consider returning for a drink. But the food? Never again.
